Director of Resident Instruction records, 1957-1988 (bulk 1970-1979).

This series contains the records of the director of Resident Instruction, a division of the College of Agricultural Sciences. The records span the years 1957-1988; however, most of the records span 1970-1979. The bulk of the series consists of the files of Jess W. Jones and George von Tungeln. Jones served as the Director of Resident Instruction from 1953-1976. His successor, von Tungeln, became acting director in 1977 and served one year. In 1978 von Tungeln became Director of International Programs and Coordinator of Special Instructional Programs in the College of Agricultural Sciences. A small part of the records in the series relates to international programs. Two significant agencies with which he corresponded were the Agency of International Development and the South East Consortium for International Development (SECID). The formats of the records include correspondence, memoranda, minutes, committee files, memoranda of agreement, programs, brochures, reports and bulletins of schools of technical education within South Carolina.

The division of Resident Instruction in the College of Agricultural Sciences was created in 1964.
